ECU Australia - everyone's credit union

Website Outage - 19 - 20th October

An unscheduled outage of our website occurred from about 4.15PM Monday 19th of October until Midday 20th of October 2009.  During this period the site was intermittently dropping out of service.

Upon immediate consultation with our web hosts, ECU Australia were informed that our web host had been subject to a DDOS (denial of service) attack.  As a result of this attack, our website was amongst some hundreds that could not be accessed for some time.

It is important to know that ECU Australia were not the target of the attack but only a victim of the sheer volume of traffic the attack was redirecting through the data center our website is hosted in.  This abundance of traffic through the data center's network caused websites including ours to stop functioning.

We would also like to point out that eTeller, our Internet Banking platform is hosted at a completely different location and was in no way subject to the attack.  This sort of occurrence is exactly why this is the case.  Members can be assured that the service is, as always, safe and secure.

If you have any questions regarding the outage, please phone Head Office on (07) 4046 8200.
