ECU Australia - everyone's credit union

From the CEO's Office - January 2011

Brett Myles - CEO

A warm welcome to 2011!

I trust all Members had a safe, enjoyable and healthy festive season and have started the New Year on a high note.

Here at ECU Australia, we’re definitely starting on a high with great Member offers and new products, starting with the launch next month of the first of our series of Visa Credit Cards.  This is long overdue and helps meet the needs of Members who want to do all of their banking in one place.

There’s more good news for you, our Members, in our loan referral campaign which allows you to earn cold hard cash just by encouraging a friend, work colleague or relative to take out a loan with us. Our Member Surveys show us you love our products and services, so we’re asking you to tell someone else … and be rewarded.  The offer is for a limited time though.

On the subject of loans, I’m pleased to report that two ECU Australia home loan products have again been rated 5 Stars for Outstanding Value by Cannex. The Premium Variable Home Loan and the Loyalty Plus were each awarded 5 Stars which means they are rated in the top 5-10% nationally. Our 1 year Fixed Home Loan meantime was awarded 4 Stars.

No doubt you have seen recent media coverage about other banks raising their home loan interest rates above the RBA increases, due to rising costs. We are not immune to the same financial pressures and may at some point need to take action. However, be assured that at all times we will act in the best interests of home loan Members while also balancing the need to pay competitive savings and term deposit rates. Your Credit Union is here for Members - not shareholders - and we are not here to make billion dollar profits.

On the administrative side of things, at the last AGM we put forward a motion to change our registered company name to ECU Australia Ltd.  We have operated as ECU Australia for years now; this aims only to formalise our registered company name. Rest assured nothing else will change.

Finally today, a pat on the back for Barb Paterson of Maryborough who’s just marked 25 years of continuous service to ECU Australia. Well done Barb and thanks for your contribution.

Until next time...

Brett
